熗炒莴苣/Chinese Romaine with Dried Chili

If you are looking to make a easy simple side dish this will be a perfect one.  This dish takes about 5 minutes to make.  It tastes fresh and delicious.  The red pepper flakes gives a good Szechuan flavour and goes well with any main courses.  It's very healthy and low-fat.

Ingredients:

  •        ½ lb Chinese romaine
  •        1 tbsp olive oil
  •        1 tsp red pepper flakes
  •        ½ tsp salt

Directions:

In a medium saucepan or a wok, heat oil over medium-high heat.  Add red pepper flakes.  It has to be very fast otherwise the red pepper flakes will be burned - about 10 seconds at most.  Add romaine and keep stirring with the red pepper flakes, about 4 minutes until all the romaine leaves are soft and tender.  Add salt and stir evenly, and then transfer to a serving plate.  Fresh Chinese Romaine with Chili made in 5 minutes!!
