火雞丸蒸豆腐/Steamed Turkey Ball with Tofu and Spinach

Whenever I don't feel like fried food and want something light and fresh instead, nothing is better than this Steamed Turkey Ball with Tofu and Spinach.  You can also use any other meat or vegetable as your preference.

This dish makes great baby (for baby 10 months or older) finger food as well.  All the ingredients are natural, my toddler girl loves it.  Soft meatballs made from ground turkey are perfect for your baby’s tiny fingers. Cut the meatball into quarters, put a few pieces on the tray, and let the fun begin.  Tofu is packed with iron, protein, and calcium, and fiber too.  The texture is perfect for your baby's tender mouth and easy on her digestive system.

Ingredients:

·      10oz medium firm Tofu (usually it’s just 1 box)
·      5oz minced turkey (or any other meat)
·      10 oz fresh spinach
·      2 tbsp chopped green onion
·      1 tbsp chopped ginger

For the topping sauce:

·      1 tbsp salt
·      1 tbsp white pepper powder
·      1 tsp cornstarch water
·      ½ cup chicken stock

To marinate the turkey:

·      1 tsp cooking wine
·      3-quarter tsp salt
·      1 tsp cornstarch
·      ½ egg white

Directions:

1.     Cut the tofu into small square pieces (around 1 tbsp small), and then use a small mellon-baller to make a hole on the top each tofu.  Make sure the holes are only as deep as the middle of the tofu.  Save the tofu you take out.
2.     Marinate the turkey and then add the tofu that’s taken out and mix together evenly.  The tofu will change the texture of the turkey and make the turkey meat event softer and smoother.
3.     In a medium saucepan, boil the water and then add the spinach and cook for a couple of minutes and transfer to a serving plate.  The spinach will be the bed that the tofu rests on.
4.     Use a teaspoon to make the marinated turkey like a small ball and put into each hole in the tofu. Transfer to a plate. Use a steamer to steam the tofu and turkey for about 12 minutes.
5.     Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, add the chicken stock, white pepper powder and salt.  After it heats up in about 1 – 2 minutes, add the cornstarch water.  Keep stirring, until it comes to a boil.  The topping sauce is done.
6.     Take out the steamed tofu with turkey.  And then transfer each tofu with turkey to the plate where you have cooked spinach.  Pour the topping sauce on top of all the tofu.

It sounds like a lot of work but it’s really not hard at all.  It takes about 20 minutes to make this dish at most and while its steaming you can always do something else.  The reward is when it’s done you will have this super delicious and healthy dish for you and your loved ones.
